Cliff House (Ty Clogwyn)
Perched on a cliff, this Palladian style building was the last cottage to be built by Sir Clough and opened in 1970. Three of these windows are trompe l'oeil. Can you tell which ones? (Give up? The three on the right side are fake) |
Cliff House was originally to be named The Lion, and the lion statue now located in front of the toilets was located near Cliff House for many years. All of the circular and arched windows in this picture are trompe l'oeil. This picture also includes the Annexe. |

Of particular note are the trompe l'oeil windows painted on the front and side. Artist Nigel Simmons did such a wonderful job that it is difficult to tell which are real and which are not. He even included the reflection of the Annexe in these side "windows" of Cliff House, and replicated the lace curtains seen in the real front windows. |
