Frix

The pedestal plaque reads Frix, but she is more commonly known as Freya, and is occasionally referred to as the 'Scandinavian Venus'. She was one of a set of seven statues representing the days of the week; hers was Friday, which was considered bad luck. So Sir Clough had no trouble picking her up at an auction of goods from Stowe stately mansion, which Sir Clough was converting into a public school at the time. Michael Rysbrack was the sculptor. The original statue has been replaced with a replica.
Below left: The original statue, complete with an unbroken archery bow.
