Government House (Tyr Llywodreath)

Portmeirion Government House

Government House, built in the late 1920s and renovated in 1981, appears to be two buildings squashed together when looked at from the village side. It is built on top of a cliff known as "The Citadel", and was named Government House because of its dominance among the buildings on this cliff.

The back side faces the estuary and is not accessible to day visitors. See the detail page for a close-up of the trompe l'oeil man in the upstairs "window" (top window of the white area). Notice how the back of Government House is painted three different colors -- white, pink, and yellow. Watch House is the adjoining building at the base of the yellow wall.
