Known throughout his life as 'Leo' Young, he
was born on 22 March 1897 at Defoe Road, Stoke
Newington, London, to parents Robert E. Young, an
author of 17 novels between 1899 and 1916 - writing
under the pen-name of Robert
Halifax - and Louise Young (nee Read). He
married Alice Victoria Nobbs on the 6 June 1920.
His wife Alice died on 7 June 1922.
He married Edith Blanche Brucher on June 1924.
There was one daughter Greta, who died aged 21 in
1947. and one son John,
born in 1937, to his second marriage, who now lives
in Romford, Essex.
Leo had one sister, Clarice
Young, three years his senior. .
In the First World War he served from 1916 to
his demob in 1919 with the Royal Dublin Fusiliers,
seeing service in Egypt. He also saw service in the
Labour Corps.
After the war he was on the outside sales staff
of a leading paint manufacturer, residing for a
time at Thornton Heath, South London.. He died in
June 1950.
