Marsha
died of a heart attack while she was
recovering from surgery to remove a tumor
from her abdomen. This was later found to
be non-malignent. The operation took place
at Greenville Memorial Hospital on Dec.5,
2003 following a month of tests to
determine whether her heart would stand
the surgery. She suffered loss of blood
pressure an hour after the surgery but
this was righted fairly quickly. After 12
days, a week before Christmas, she was
released from hospital to convelesce at
home, Unfortunately there was still some
internal bleeding which caused nausea and
rejection of food causing her to get
gradually weaker. Marsha did not want to
return to hospital but when her
conditioned, worsenned and following
medical checks of her condition, she
agreed to enter Oconee Memorial at Seneca.
Her friend Beth Helsel and I took her in
to Oconee ER on Friday Jan.30. She was
given a blood transfusion and her
condition improved. On the Saturday
afternoon visiting she was in good spirits
telling the nurses that she preferred
Oconee Memorial Hospital. I washed her
hair and we talkied of plans for when she
was fully recovered. At 1.30 am, on Sunday
Feb 1, 2004, I got a call from the doctor
saying 'she'd taken a turn for the worse'.
Apparently her heart had suffered too much
and gave in. I was there in time to give
her a final kiss
Marsha's
wishes were to be cremated and her remains
scattered at Portmeirion in North Wales,
which she loved.
Robin
Llywelyn, Managing Director of
Portmeirion, is arranging to have a tree
planted in Marsha's
memory.
