Movies

  • 1941 -- H.G.Wells' Kipps (starring Michael Redgrave) was filmed on the Portmeirion peninsula.
  • 1958 -- Inn of the Sixth Happiness (starring Ingrid Bergman) filmed in the area, including some filming with the Folly Castle at Plas Brondanw. The Buddha at Portmeirion was given by the producers.
  • 1961 -- The Green Helmet (starring Ed Begley), an Italian racing film.
  • 1991 -- Scenes from Under Suspicion (starring Liam Neeson) were filmed around the Hotel and the Amis Reunis.

Television

  • 1959 -- Several episodes of the Danger Man/Secret Agent series (starring Patrick McGoohan) had scenes filmed at Portmeirion. The most notable of these were 'View from the Villa" and "Under the Lake". Portmeirion doubled for Italy, China, and Austria in various episodes.
  • 1966-67 -- The most famous filming at Portmeirion was for the enigmatic television series 'The Prisoner' (starring Patrick McGoohan), and its fans continue to be lured to Portmeirion after watching the show's reruns.
  • 1976 -- Scenes from the Dr. Who series (starring Tom Baker) episode 'The Masque of Mandragora' were filmed, with Portmeirion doubling for Renaissance Italy this time.
  • 1980 -- An episode of the 'Citizen Smith' series (starring Robert Lindsay) was filmed, using Battery Square and the beach to seem like Italy.
  • 1981 -- Scenes from the mini-series 'Brideshead Revisited' (starring Jeremy Irons) were filmed around Watch House and the Hotel swimming pool.
  • 1982? -- Episode of series 'Sorry!' (starring Ronnie Corbett) filmed.
  • 1984 -- The interior and exterior of Hercules Hall was used in an episode of the SF series 'The Tripods'
  • 1984 -- An episode of the quiz show 'Treasure Hunt' was filmed.
  • 1988 -- Scenes for a Christmas special episode of the sitcom 'Bread' were filmed with Portmeirion standing in for Rome
  • 2002 -- Part of the final episode of 'Cold Feet' was filmed at Portmeirion. Shown March, 2003.

Commercials

Renault and Welsh Tourist Board, among others have filmed some of their ads at Portmeirion.

Music

  • Several groups have filmed some scenes from their music videos at Portmeirion, including 'See Those Eyes' by Altered Images, and 'I Should Coco' by Supergrass.
  • The Fairport Convention's 'expletive delighted' CD has an instrumental song entitled 'Portmeirion'.
  • Howard Jones album 'The Prisoner' has a track called 'The Portmeirion Mix'.
  • Mike Simmons has released a CD/tape entitled 'Portmeirion' which features music for which he is both the writer and performer. Pieces include 'Salutation', 'White Horses', 'The Pantheon', 'The Angel', 'Amis Reunis', 'The Campanile', 'Telford's Tower', 'Fountain', and 'The Woodlands'. Music from the mountains MFM005
