Television mini-series based on Evelyn Waugh's story of the Marchmain family from the 1920s to the 1940s. Most of the location filming was done at Castle Howard, which doubled for the manor "Brideshead". Stars Jeremy Irons, Anthony Andrews, Laurence Olivier, and Claire Bloom. Some flashback scenes were filmed at Portmeirion, where it was supposed to be an Italian villa. The filming included the front portico of Watch House, the Hotel front, and the Hotel swimming pool. The back of Government House can also be glimpsed as characters walk down the Battery green from the Campanile to Watch House. |
