The Prisoner (TV series, 1968) starring Patrick McGoohan

Although it consists of only seventeen episodes, this series has attained cult status and following because of its timeless theme of individual versus society. McGoohan had filmed some of his pervious series (Danger Man, AKA Secret Agent) episodes in Portmeirion, and thought it was the perfect place for this series. "The Prisoner" is a secret agent who resigns from his job and, since he is no longer trusted by his former bosses, is spirited off to a sinister village where people have numbers, not names. He wakes up in a place which has an interior just like his London home, but its exterior is a cottage in a fantastic seaside village. All the episodes pit Number Six (as he is known as) against Number Two (who runs the village). The series has extensive location filming as well as stock footage of Portmeirion and shows the village off very well. The hotel is known as the Old People's Home, Castell Deudraeth is the Hospital, the Pantheon is the Green Dome (Number Two's headquarters), and the Round House is Number Six's home. The actual location of the real "Village" was not revealed until the end of the final epsiode, in the credits.
