Noel Coward often stayed at Portmeirion, and during a week in June 1941, he wrote the play Blithe Spirit. Although he sometimes stayed in Watch House (as he shown sitting on its patio in the above photo), he was in Upper Fountain when he wrote Blithe Spirit.
