Pantheon (Y Gromen)

The Pantheon, or Dome, stands on a cliff top known as Pulpit Rock and presently contains an art gallery. The white front of the Pantheon, called the high cloister, was originally the top part of a fireplace designed by architect Norman Shaw in 1883 for a music room in a mansion in Dawpool, Cheshire, and was reerected on its present location in 1957. This picture is from the village center side, and shows how large the dome looks. |

Sir Clough eventually built the domed structure behind the fireplace. The original green wooden dome (with the wooden slats running horizontally) was replaced in 1992 with copper strips running vertically. The copper is currently a brown color, but will turn green as it oxidizes. This picture is of the back of the dome and helps illustrate how small the building actually is. |

The Pantheon is located along an axis that ends in the Hercules Hall. This view looks up the walkway from the Hall towards the Pantheon. |
