Quick Tour of Portmeirion

Clough Williams-Ellis built Portmeirion with the goal of proving that a resort like this could be built in harmony with the landscape. Because of this goal, you can see where he literally built the cottages around rock structures instead of bulldozing the rocks down. This picture shows the solid rock under Gate House.

Hercules is an important character in Portmeirion. The statue in this picture is Hercules substituting for Atlas in holding up the world. The large building behind him is known as Hercules Hall because of ceiling panels in the main room showing the labours of Hercules.
