Paint
One of the ways that Clough made buildings seem much taller than they really
are in the village was to paint them in graduating shades of paint. You can
see on these two examples how the darkest shade is along the bottom, a medium
shade is applied across the middle and the lightest shade is at the top of each
cottage.
