Language Policy

We occasionally get email from visitors who want to know why Virtual Portmeirion isn't written in Welsh. There are two very practical reasons for this:

1. I don't speak Welsh. I'm an Irish-American and I've tried very hard to learn the few Welsh words I do know, but I don't know enough to translate several hundred web pages and maintain them!
2. This web site is aimed at architectural scholars and potential tourists from around the world. We figure there are more Welsh people who know English than there are people from outside Wales who know Welsh. In our "Planning for a trip" section, we supply links to Welsh language sites on the web in case anyone wants to learn more. We also provide a link to an internet translation service which can translate our pages into several languages, including Welsh.

Therefore, it's written and maintained in English. We don't mean to offend anyone, honestly.
